How to release lessons gradually with Membree
Configure module and lesson availability by days of access, a fixed date, or inheritance from the module.
In the course editor, open the module or lesson and configure Content availability or Lesson availability. Choose immediate release, release after a number of days, or a fixed date. Lessons can also inherit the module’s rule. Save and check the schedule with a student account.

Choose the release schedule
Gradual release controls when students can open content. First organize modules and lessons, then decide which materials should be available at the start and which will be released later.
The number of days follows the start of each student’s access. A fixed date releases content at the same date and time for everyone.
Also check the product’s Access duration. Access duration and content scheduling are separate settings: a lesson may have a future release date while the student’s access has a defined period.
Configure availability in the editor
- Open the course in Products and enter Content or Editor. Find the module you want to schedule and select Edit module.
- In Content availability, choose Available immediately, Release after a number of days, or Release on a fixed date to match your planned schedule.
- For release by days, enter the interval in Release after how many days? For a fixed date, fill in Release date and time.
- Save the module. Open Edit lesson and check Lesson availability to decide whether it follows the module or needs its own schedule.
- Use Inherit module availability for lessons that should follow the module’s rule. In a section, inheritance follows the parent module.
- Save changes and review the rest of the curriculum. Make sure lesson exceptions match the sequence you want to deliver.
View the schedule as a student
Open the course with an authorized student account. Locked lessons remain visible in the curriculum, but their content cannot be played before release. When a date is available, check the information shown.
The team can preview content while ignoring the schedule. Opening a lesson as the owner therefore does not prove it is available to every student. Check using the permissions of someone taking the course.
If a lesson has a different release from its module, review its own rule. Inheritance finds the closest rule in the module structure; a lesson’s specific setting replaces the inherited rule.
Understand when the countdown starts
When releasing after a number of days, the countdown uses the earliest start of that student’s active access to the course. It does not begin when the student completes the previous lesson or first opens the scheduled lesson.
You can edit scheduling after creating content. Review the effect on people who already have access, especially when changing a fixed date or number of days.
This feature controls availability by time. It does not require passing an examination, completing a previous module, or attending an event. Explain the schedule to students on the sales page and in the course introduction.
Frequently asked questions
Do days count from completion of the previous lesson?
No. The countdown uses the earliest start of the student’s active course access. To have everyone follow the same date, use Release on a fixed date.
Can a lesson have a different rule from its module?
Yes. Configure its own rule in Lesson availability. If you choose inheritance, it follows the applicable rule from the closest module.
Can I check the lock as the owner?
The team can ignore scheduling to preview content. Use an authorized student account to check the actual lock and release date.
